Marjorie Wanda Petry Trotti Long was born on March 9, 1927, in Andrew, Louisiana, to John Acklin and India Lou Hoffpauir Petry. She died on October 3, 2026, at the age of 99. God granted her a quiet and peaceful passing at home only a few hours after the last home health caregiver left.
Marjorie and her daughter were a team of two through thick and thin. She supported her daughter in every aspect of her life.
She had four brothers, Ralph Huey (deceased), Granville Dale (deceased), Kenneth Lamar (deceased), and Artie (Martha) of Sulphur. The Petry family resided in Evangeline before moving to Westlake. She is survived by her daughter, Judith C. Trotti; her adopted daughter and son, Rene' and Anthony Fontenot of Moss Bluff; and their children, Ty, Madison, and Abby; her sister-in-law, Linda Royer Petry LaFleur of Maplewood; and many nieces and nephews.
She attended Westlake High School and was employed by several retail businesses in Westlake and Lake Charles. She often bought as much as she sold, having a closet full of clothes, shoes, and hats. She served in a Christian school and was a caregiver to adults and children for many years. She also cared for her mother in the later years of her life. She was a constant source of love and support.
She married Rayford Trotti from Simpson and then Virgal Long from Moss Bluff. Her life was enriched by the Trotti and Long extended families, of which she became a part.
She lived in Moss Bluff for many years and faithfully attended Moss Bluff Pentecostal Church. The members there supported and loved her and included her in all their activities. She attended weekly prayer meetings and read the Bible from cover to cover every year. Her faith in Jesus Christ sustained her through the good and bad times of her life.
She joined Dynamic Dimensions in Moss Bluff and became a part of a group that met at 7:30 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to drink coffee, eat homemade breakfast items, and exercise. She made many wonderful friends there. She walked three miles, three times a week, for several years.
In 2013, she moved to San Antonio, Texas, with her daughter. She became a member of several senior groups in Bexar County, including Keeping Everyone Young in Spirit, and Comal County, including the Bulverde Spring Branch Activity Center, where she made many friends. Her family was grateful to the staff and members of these organizations for welcoming her and adding excitement and fun to her life. She enjoyed taking day trips to the Texas Hill Country.
Marjorie's greatest treasures were her family and friends. She remembered names, birthdays, significant events in people's lives, and the times she shared with others. She kept cards and gifts that she had received for years.
She was also blessed to have received expert medical care throughout her lifetime. Artie and Martha Petry were faithful in assisting her with medical appointments when needed, and she enjoyed being with them. Her family was grateful for their willingness to always be available to her.
Sincere thanks are extended to her wonderful medical providers in Louisiana, including Susan Ieyoub, M.D.; Allen Dennis, D.D.S., and his staff; and Robert Cochran, D.D.S., and his staff, who went above and beyond to meet her medical and dental needs. In San Antonio, David Marks, M.D.; Christopher Skalomenos, M.D.; Jean Liu, M.D.; and Tana Austin, N.P., were compassionate and attentive to her needs and provided her with expert care.
The team of home health care providers from the Mi Familia Summit agency were wonderful. Lynn, PTA, and Armando, LVN, gave her encouragement and expert care, having cared for their own family members. Lauren, RN; Krystal, PT; and Angie coordinated her care with compassion and empathy. The entire team was responsive, positive, and helpful to Marjorie and her daughter.
Sincere thanks are also extended to the staff of Olinger-Saenz and Johnson Funeral Homes, who were her last caregivers. Blake Gilbert and Steve Schindler, Johnson staff members, carried out her last wishes with patience and sensitivity.
The members of the Tuesday Morning Ladies Prayer Group sustained Marjorie and her daughter hour-by-hour, with the help of Betty Wing, Dianna Thompson, Cindy Creel, and Melanie Pugh. They also felt the prayers of the entire congregation of Moss Bluff Pentecostal Church and were thankful for them.
Marjorie enjoyed each day and woke asking God how she might bless someone else. Her family's prayer is that Jesus Christ will pour out His blessings on all who showed her kindness throughout her lifetime.
A funeral for Marjorie will be Saturday, October 10, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Moss Bluff Pentecostal Church. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery is Westlake, LA. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM also at Moss Bluff Pentecostal Church and last until the start of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Moss Bluff Pentecostal Church or a charity of your choice. The mailing address for the church is Moss Bluff Pentecostal Church, P.O. Box 12494, Lake Charles, LA 70612.
