September 26, 1940 — February 13, 2026

Lake Charles

Marjorie Ann Prudhomme Nelands, 85, of Lake Charles passed away Friday, February 13, 2026, in a local healthcare and rehabilitation facility.

Mrs. Nelands was born September 26, 1940 to Joseph Lawrence Prudhomme, Jr. and Edna Posey Prudhomme in Winnfield, LA. She lived most of her life in Lake Charles. She was a graduate of Bunkie High School and Avoyelles Parish Trade School where she attained a degree in Business and Secretarial Studies. She will be well remembered for her work as a receptionist at Dance Art Studios throughout her daughter's enrollment in dance, twirling and gymnastics. She also worked at McNeese Bookstore and in the accounting office of Pelican Cigar Company and her husband’s commercial refrigeration business. She will be well remembered for working with Hyman Simmons State Farm Office from 1985 – 2003 and nearly five additional years for Johnny Janese until her retirement. Mrs. Nelands was always active in organizations outside of her home and office. During her younger years she was a Den Leader Coach throughout her son’s membership in Cub and Boy Scouts. She was the first woman to receive the Silver Beaver Award and Bronze Pelican Award and was Chairman of the Catholic Committee of Scouting. She was a proud member of the W.B. Williamson American Legion Post Ladies Auxiliary Unit 1 where she served five years as President, two years as District President, was awarded District President of the Year and served multiple years as Treasurer.

A lady of family, faith and prayer, a faithful member of St. Margaret Catholic Church, Mrs. Nelands found great importance in raising her family in the Catholic Church. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Daughters #1506, was awarded Catholic Daughter of the Year and various Daughter of the Year awards.

For fun, Mrs. Nelands was a member of Krewe du Grande Bois for many years and was past court royalty. She enjoyed dancing and loved playing cards.

She will be most remembered for her outgoing, vibrant personality and her love and adoration for her family.

She leaves to cherish her memory, one son, Mark W. Nelands and wife Karen of Hayes; two daughters, Denise Ann Huval and husband Huey of Kennesaw, GA and Deborah Kay Andrus and husband George of Sulphur; twelve grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren and two on the way; one sister, Carrie Sue Benard of Texas and several nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus L Nelands; her son, Steven L. Nelands; brothers, Joseph Lawrence Prudhomme, III and Frank Prudhomme and her parents.
