“Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.” ~Chuck Clark
It is with a heavy heart we share with you the death of Mark Edward LeLeaux, a husband, Dad, Pawpaw, brother, uncle, cousin, brother-in-law and friend. Mark died on Friday, December 1st, 2017 in his home with the love of his family surrounding him.
Mark was born in Chicago, IL, where his family lived until 1964. As an eight year old boy, moving to Lake Charles he thought he had moved to Heaven. Here, he had a bicycle, fishing pole, a rice canal to swim in ( ie: Canal Street ), dirt roads, and neighborhood friends. His love for fishing began and lasted his lifetime.
Mark graduated from Barbe High School in 1974 and attended McNeese. He was a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity and held several offices in the fraternity. He was known as "McNeese Foosball Champ". In 1975 Mark met Susan while he was working at Stop N' Shop. They married in 1977. He referred to Susan fondly as "His Bride". Mark and Susan celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this past August. Mark worked in his family's business, Stop N' Shop, until 1992. At the time of his retirement Mark was employed by Big Rock Sports, a national hunting and fishing distributor. He loved his work and his customers. We always joked saying that Mark didn't have a job, he had a Hobby he got paid for.
Mark was a longtime member of Sportsman's Bass Club of Lake Charles. He held several offices and won many awards for his performance and sportsmanship throughout his 30 plus years as a member. When asked when he was going to "quit the bass club" he would reply that it keeps him fishing. The real truth...he loved the competition and camaraderie. And that was okay. Mark greatly enjoyed his time on Toledo Bend and his camp. OMG his camp!! He loved it so.
Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Susan Brown LeLeaux; daughter, Laura LeLeaux Briley and husband Dusty Briley. His son Bryan LeLeaux; his sweet girl "Jadey B" granddaughter Jade Briley; Mark's brother Stephen LeLeaux and wife Cindy; as well as, numerous aunts, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernie and Fran LeLeaux.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, December 5th, 2017 at Johnson Funeral Home, with visitation starting at 11:00 AM. Deacon George Carr will officiate.
Please feel free to join us in your finest fishing attire, as we know Mark will be wearing his as well.
