Carl Mark Slaven, 57, of Lake Charles passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2018 in a local hospital, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Slaven was born August 8th, 1960 in Lake Charles. A graduate of LaGrange High School, he then moved to Franklinton, LA where he worked and resided most of his adult life. He enjoyed country living, often describing himself as a “country boy”. Mr. Slaven raised Axis deer and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his mother, Willie Seal Slaven; three sons, Roy Slaven (Jolee) from Longview, WA, John Slaven (Michealla) and Joe Slaven (Shauna) of Vancouver, WA; four grandchildren, Hannah, Carly, John, Jr. (JJ) and Bradley; two brothers, Gary Slaven (Julie) of Carlyss and Darryle (Oline) of Huntsville, TX; one sister, Joan Kershaw (Murphy) of Iowa; numerous nieces, nephews; former spouse and mother of his children, Janice B. Slaven of Longview, WA and former spouse and best friend, Virginia Padgett.
He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Slaven.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Friday, July 20, 2018 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Alan Weishampel and Reverend Eddie Taylor will officiate. Visitation Friday will be from 9:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home. Graveside services will be at 5:00 PM in Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery in Franklinton, LA.
