It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mark Anthony Witherwax, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, who left us on January 18, 2026, at the age of 72. Mark's journey began on July 15, 1953, in Lake Charles, LA, and he would go on to call Iowa, LA, his home.
Mark proudly served in the United States Navy from July 23, 1971, until July 21, 1975, earning the rank of HT3 and receiving the National Defense Service Medal for his service. After returning home, he found his passion in the fabrication industry, working as a machinist, welder, and pipe fitter. Known for his strong work ethic and his ability to tackle any challenge, Mark became a respected figure in his field.
In 1974, he married the love of his life, Sharron. Together, they built a wonderful family, raising two daughters, Heather Crader (Chris), Elizabeth Williams (Tarvis), and two sons, Samuel Witherwax (Fallon), John Robert Witherwax (Katy). He is also survived by his cherished 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and brother, Jackie Guillory.
Mark was deeply involved in his community, serving as a Eucharistic minister at St. Margaret's Catholic Church. His adventurous spirit shone through in his love for riding motorcycles, hunting, fishing, and being a drag race enthusiast. He even served as the former president of the Gypsy MC Lake Charles Chapter.
Mark will be remembered for his infectious laughter, generous spirit, and unwavering support for his family and friends.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Mark's life. Visitation will take place at Johnson Funeral Home of Iowa on January 23, 2026, at 9:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 AM. A rosary service will be held on January 22, 2026, at 6:30 PM, with public viewing from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Cremation will follow the service under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Iowa.
Mark Witherwax leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories that will forever hold a place in our hearts. He will be missed more than words can express.
Mark was preceded in death by his father, Perry Witherwax; his mother, Beatrice Matte; his brothers, Perry W. Witherwax, Donald Witherwax, John Robert Witherwax.
