Gardens of heaven are certainly richer and more beautiful. It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Dad & Pawpaw. Marshall Clyde (MC) Smith, 72, of Westlake, passed away from this life and into the arms of his heavenly father on Wednesday July 19th, 2023, after a valiant and brave battle with cancer.
MC was born on September 14th, 1950, in Lake Charles, LA, to Billy Bane Smith & Lovyne Duplechain Smith, both of Westlake, LA.
After MC graduated from Westlake High School in 1969, he attended college in Texas. Following his college studies, he returned to Westlake La, where he began his career as an Insulator. This is the trade he worked in for over 40 years with Insulators Local 112. He then worked many years at Austin Valve as a supervisor until his retirement.
MC enjoyed living on the river and all the activities it provided, as well as long rides on country roads. He loved to travel, and most of all he loved spending time with family and friends.
Heaven rejoiced in welcoming him and he has been reunited with his parents in paradise along with his father’s parents, Marshall C. Smith & Alma Smith and his mother’s parents Remi & Ann Duplechain.
Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Tara L. Hill (Scott Hill) of Lancaster, TX and son, Marshall “Cody” Smith of Lake Charles, LA.; 6 grandchildren, Kegan B. Smith, Madison C. Smith, Christian J. Cormier, Kellen B. Smith, Payton E. Smith, and Levi Smith; sister, Rylla Romero; niece, Tonya Hardesty and nephew, Brandon Hardesty. He also leaves numerous great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.
Memorial services will be held at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles on Friday, October 20, 2023 at 2:00 PM. Gatherings of family and friends Friday will be from 12:30 until the time of service in the funeral home. Interment services will follow at Highland Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Lung Cancer Society, at action.lung.org, an organization MC felt strongly about or to a charity of your choice.
