Martha Jane Oliver, 71, of Sulphur passed away with her family at her side, Wednesday, January 17, 2024.
Martha Jane graduated from Sulphur High School in 1970 and received her cosmetology training at Louisiana School of Beauty. She was the owner/operator of Family Hair Designs for over 30 years. Martha Jane was a Poll Commissioner for Calcasieu Parish and during tax season she worked with H & R Block. She was a member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church and had attended Cursillo.
She was very involved with the Sulphur Senior Center and loved attending Bingos. Martha Jane loved her family with all of her heart. She was the caregiver for her husband, mother, and father during their last days. She was always taking care of and checking on family members. Although she never had children of her own, she was the “Mother figure” to most, if not all. Martha Jane loved baby sitting her nieces and nephews, and definitely spoiled each one. She will be remembered for her strong faith, giving of herself and love for all.
Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Loria Hess (Daniel) of Sulphur; brother Marshal Cormier (Christy) of Sulphur; sisters-in-law, Karen Cormier of Sulphur, and Betty Armstrong (John) of Florida; nieces and nephews, James Cormier (Anita), Joseph Cormier, Daniel Hess, Jr. (Heather), Ashley Hess Vincent (Chris), Matthew Cormier, and Caitlyn Cormier; two great nieces, and two great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, Philip Oliver, Jr.; parents, Arthur and Jessie Mae Cormier, brother, Arthur James “Jimmy” Cormier; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Teal and Stella Benoit.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11AM, Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. Father Edward Richard, M.S. will officiate. Visitation will be at Johnson & Robison Funeral Home 4 – 9PM on Monday, January 22, 2024, with a Cursillo Rosary at 6PM. Visitation will resume at 8AM Tuesday until leaving for the church at 10:30AM. Cremation will follow under the direction of Johnson and Robison Funeral Home.
The family would like to thank West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital, Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, Holly Hill Nursing Facility and St. Joseph Hospice for the excellent care given to Martha Jane.
