Martha Ruth McCown Walters Shortridge, born in Roanoke, Louisiana on March 18, 1932, daughter of the late Fred William and Hattie Turner McCown, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2024, at the age of ninety-one.
Martha Ruth, as she was affectionately known, was a graduate of Iowa High School, and of the Baptist faith. She traveled the world with her first husband, James Walters, Sr., who served faithfully in the U. S. Airforce. Martha Ruth was an avid lover of bluegrass and country music. She loved spending time with her family on the front porch watching birds and squirrels.
She is preceded in death by her first husband, James Walters, Sr., and second husband, Kimbal Cline Shortridge and numerous siblings.
Survivors are her sons, Jim Walters, Jr., and Doug Walters and wife, Christine; grandsons, Derick Walters and wife, Mary, and Chris Walters; great-grandchildren, Rylee, Whitlee, Jaxon, Azalee, Darson, and Charlie.
A gathering of friends and family will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa. Graveside services will be in Oaklawn Cemetery in Welsh at 1 p.m.
