Mary Ellen Abshire

Mary Ellen Abshire, born in Kinder, Louisiana on April 17, 1950, daughter of the late Yeumen and Mabel Duplantis Lopez, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at the age of seventy-four.

Mary Ellen, a devoted member of the Catholic faith, enjoyed spending time with her beloved family and friends. In her spare time, her interests included painting, sewing, and cooking.

Survivors are her loving and devoted husband of fifty-four years, Wilson Abshire; children, April Mallett (Joe), Heath Abshire (Jennifer), Austin Abshire; siblings, Ronald Lopez (Patricia), Anna Witherwax (Eddie), Louella Houston, Beulah Dupre, and Judy Petry (Steven); grandchildren, Dustin Mallett, Dylan Mallett (McKenzie), Jaiden Abshire, and Daidyn Mallett. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Rodney Lopez.

Funeral services will be in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa on Monday, December 23, 2024 at 10 a.m. Rev. Roland Vaughn, Celebrant. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery in Welsh under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa. Visitation will begin Sunday in the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 6:30 p.m. and will resume Monday from 8 a.m. until the time of service at 10 a.m.
