Mary C. Allen

Mary Courts Allen, 82, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 in her residence, surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Allen was born October 7, 1934 in Gueydan, LA and has lived in Lake Charles for the past sixty years. In her earlier years, she was active with the DARE program when her children were in school and she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Justice Chapter #234. She enjoyed fishing, tending to her plants, traveling, and loved Cajun music.

Mrs. Allen is survived by her children, Wanda Vanlandingham of Denham Springs, LA, Mary Ann Bertrand and husband Gary of Sulphur, LA, and Johnnie Bell Walker and husband Jeffery of Lake Charles, LA; son, Brian Allen and companion Roderick Stutes of Sulphur, LA; sister, Shirley Landry of Sulphur, LA; seven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Allen, Jr.; parents, Rufus and Claudia Courts; and her brother, Sidney Courts.

Her graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Consolata Cemetery. Reverend Michael Shamblin will officiate. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Thursday from 10:00 AM to 12:40 PM.
