Mrs. Mary Ida Futrell passed away on January 24, 2017.
A visitation and memorial service will be on Friday, February 10, 2017 beginning at 10:00 AM in Paxton Hall of First United Methodist Church of Lake Charles, LA. The Memorial service will immediately follow in the Church Sanctuary beginning at 11:00 AM. Officiating will be Rev. Weldon Bares of First United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Forest Park Cemetery in Shreveport, LA.
Mrs. Futrell was born on June 27, 1918 in Grant Parish and lived most of her adult life in Shreveport, LA. She moved to Lake Charles, LA in 1985. While in Lake Charles she enjoyed her friends, her Sunday school Class, working with her flowers, spending time with her children and their families, and working as a Pink Lady at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cora Belle Slayter and Efrem Walter Slayter; and her husband of 48 years, Lawrence Edward Futrell.
Survivors include two sons, Lawrence Ronald Futrell, M.D. and wife Sandra of Lake Charles, LA and Thomas Walter Futrell, M.D. and wife Carol of Raphine, VA. She was also blessed with five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Futrell, Jr., Kevin Futrell, Matthew Futrell, and David Anderson.
The family of Mrs. Futrell wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff of the Gardens for their excellence in care and kindness.
They also suggest memorials donations be made to First United Methodist Church, 812 Kirkman Street, Lake Charles, LA 70601 or a charity of your choice.
