Mary Odessa Peloquin

February 16, 1933 — August 24, 2025

Mary Odessa Evans Peloquin, age 92, of Moss Bluff, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2025. Born in Norfolk, Virginia, on February 16, 1933 to the late Samuel and Grace Evans. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished member of her community.

After graduating from Maury High School in Norfolk, VA, she moved on to Louisiana in 1957, where she embraced her new home. In 1959, she married her lifelong partner, Austin Peloquin, with whom she shared 56 wonderful years of marriage.

She was preceded in death by her eldest son, John R. Gilbert, sister, Grace Anne Bartow and her brother, Samuel (Sammy) R. Evans Jr.

Throughout her career, Mary worked as an assistant loan officer at Commercial Securities for 20 years. Later, she dedicated herself to income tax preparation, serving her clients diligently while teaching tax classes and working for H&R Block until her retirement in the late 1990s. She spoke fondly of the lifelong friendships and fellow tax preparers she made throughout her life and career.

Mary's passions included painting and drawing, as well as playing the piano and enjoying music. Her creative and artistic spirit was a reflection of her warm personality.

She is survived by her children: Susan LeBrun (Clay), Nancy Cornwell (Paul) and Michael Scott Peloquin (Catherine). She was a loving grandmother and great-grandmother, to many grandchildren great-grandchildren, and great, great-grandchildren who will cherish her memory forever.

A funeral service in honor of Mary will be held Friday, August 29, 2025, at 10:00 AM, at Johnson Funeral Home in Moss Bluff with Father Guilbeau officiating. Visitation will be held at Johnson Funeral Home in Moss Bluff on Thursday, August 28, 2025, from 5:00-8:00 PM. Visitation will resume Friday morning at the funeral home from 8:30-10:00 AM. Burial will follow at New Ritchie Cemetery in Moss Bluff.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Charities of Southwest Louisiana.

Mary Odessa Evans Peloquin's legacy of love, artistry, and kindness will live on in the hearts of her family and all who knew her.
