Fore! Look out heaven, he’s finally able to play again!

Matthew Alan Yorks, born January 15, 1963 in Lewiston, Maine passed away surrounded by family at his home in Lake Charles, LA on Monday, May 4, 2026 after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Matt loved golf almost as much as his family, but the disease forced him to give it up way too early.

Matt is survived by his wife, Brenda; his children, Allyson, Brett, and Charlie; his stepmother, Miriam Yorks; and his siblings, Robin Hanley and Jonathan Yorks. He is preceded in death by both parents, George and Paula Yorks.

The family would like to thank Dr. Brian Stewart and Jennifer Doyle of Memorial Family Medicine in Sulphur, RN Rebecca Monk and Brighton Bridge Hospice for their care and compassion. More importantly we thank Jayla Giovanni whose love, care and support during these last seven months have been appreciated beyond words.

A celebration of his life will be held at Johnson Funeral Home on Lake Street in Lake Charles on Thursday, May 7, 2026 at 6:00 PM. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 PM until the start of the service. In lieu of flowers the family welcomes donations to the National MS Society.
