Max L. Burks, born June 24, 1932, son of Dosty and Versie (Lanier) Burks, passed away in New York City on December 3, 2017, at the age of 85.
Max is survived by his children and their spouses, Kathy Posner and husband, Michael of New York City and Jeffery Burks and wife, Polly of Florida; grandchildren, Blythe Kaplowitz and her husband, Lee Kaplowitz, Diana Posner, Jake Burks, Tucker Burks and Olivia Burks; and his siblings, Peggy Garrison and William Gidney.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jewell (Buller) Burks; and his siblings, Dicie Burks, Dorothy Richmond, Shirley Simmons and Edward Gidney.
Max was a retired ironworker in Ironworkers’ Local 678 and local building contractor.
A Mass of Christian burial will be in St. Raphael Catholic Church, December 9, 2017 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Rueben Buller officiating. Burial will follow in Hebert Cemetery. Visitation will begin Friday in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m., with a rosary recited at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will resume Saturday from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
