Max Wilton Fontenot, 86, of Sulphur passed away Monday, September 13, 2021, in a local care facility.
Max was born in Ville Platte and was a graduate of Sacred Heart Catholic High School and was baptized Christian Catholic. He was the owner and operator of the Canal Station on Ruth Street for over 30 years and was a Freight Agent for Morgan Express for 20 plus years. Max enjoyed camping, was an avid fisherman; listening to Cajun music, and loved watching all sports, especially the New Orleans Saints. His greatest joy was time spent with family and friends where Max’s love of cooking was enjoyed by all.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Deidre Veillon (Gerald) of Sulphur; son, David Fontenot of Carlyss; grandchildren, Joshua Fontenot (Charmaine) of Sulphur, Bridget Fontenot of Sulphur, and Casey Marshall (Cody) of Sulphur; great grandchildren, Brylon Fontenot, Rye Marshal, Madilyn Marshall, and Finlee Marshall; two sisters, Jane Guillory and Elaine Soileau; stepdaughter Tina Smith (Mark); and step grandchildren, Phillip Smith, Matthew Smith, Lucas Petty, Stacy Petty, and Tiffany Soileau.
Max was preceded in death by his parents, Wilson and Panney Fontenot; wife, Delores Fontenot; siblings, Loretta Berthelot, Frankie Fontenot, and Ruth Fontenot; brothers-in-law, Gene Soileau, Edward Guillory, and Millard Berthelot; step-daughter, Susan Petty; and step-son, Keith Soileau.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 18, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ville Platte, La., Father Killeen will officiate services. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a Rosary at 7:30 PM on Friday, September 17, 2021, at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home. Burial will be at Evangeline Memorial Cemetery, Ville Platte on Chataignier Hwy.
