With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Melissa Lazenby, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Born on September 19, 1965, in Biloxi, MS, Melissa peacefully departed this life on April 5, 2026, in Kinder, LA, surrounded by her loving family.
Melissa was a devoted homemaker who found immense joy in nurturing her family and creating a warm and welcoming home. She graduated from LaGrange High School and went on to earn an Associate's Degree in Cosmetology, a testament to her passion for beauty and care. Her interests extended beyond her studies; she loved shopping, cooking delicious meals, sharing her favorite music, and exploring the world of computer programming. Her warmth and creativity inspired everyone around her.
Melissa will be deeply missed by her devoted husband Jerry Lazenby. She leaves behind an adoring family that includes her sons, Adam Hathaway (Kaylee), Seth Hathaway (Bailey), Sam Hathaway (Hanna), her daughters Ashley Kirkum (Kevin), Amy Hathaway (Armond), Ashley Lazenby (Ray), Tara Hathaway (Alex), and her step son, Billy Lazenby (Jackie). In addition to her children, Melissa's legacy continues through her 21 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable joy. She is also survived by her 2 nieces, 1nephew, 1 great niece, and 2 great nephews, all of whom cherished her dearly. Melissa's faithful companion, her pet Jax, was a constant source of love in her life.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a public visitation at Johnson Funeral Home of Iowa on April 7, 2026, at 11:00 am. A Funeral Service will be held at the same location at 1:00 pm, where we will gather to celebrate the beautiful life of Melissa Lazenby. Cremation will follow under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Iowa.
Melissa's gentle spirit, kindness, and laughter will forever be remembered. In our grief, we find comfort in the love she shared and the lasting impact she made in her family and community. She may no longer walk among us, but her love will continue to illuminate our lives. Rest in peace, dear Missy.
Melissa was preceded in death by her father, Robert Hurst; her mother, Catherine Ott Davis; her daughter, Amberly Hathaway; her sister, Katherine Broussard, her brothers, Ricky, Robert Hurst, Jr., and her beloved pets, Angus, Layla, Gypsey, and Axel.
