Mercedes Fontenot

Mercedes Chapman Fontenot, 90, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 10:15 PM on Thursday, October 26, 2017 in a local care facility.

Mrs. Fontenot was born April 25, 1927 in Pine Prairie, LA. She worked in sales at TG & Y for over twenty-five years. She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and as a minister for the homebound. Mrs. Fontenot enjoyed traveling with her family and with various groups, with which she formed lifelong friendships. She also enjoyed reading and loved to play Aggravation. She had a great love for her cats.

Mrs. Fontenot is survived by her daughter, Larona Weber and husband Robert of Lake Charles; son, Randal Fontenot of Forsyth, GA; granddaughter, Kayla Weber of Lake Charles; great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Pullin and husband John of Ragley; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, Elway Fontenot; her parents and siblings.

Her funeral mass will be at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church at 9:00 AM on Monday, October 30, 2017. Father Ruben Buller will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Sunday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a rosary at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Monday at the funeral home from 8:00 AM to 8:40 AM.
