Michael Elton Bertrand

Michael Elton Bertrand, 68, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 18, 2025. He was born on March 29, 1957, to Nelda Joy Oliver Holt and Kenneth Joseph Bertrand Sr.

Michael graduated from McNeese State University with a bachelor’s degree in technology. He dedicated 35 years of his career as a safety professional at Conoco, where he proudly retired. He loved to travel and was able to live in exotic places like Dubai and Trinidad through his job. Known for his warm spirit and generous heart, he loved hosting gatherings, especially Thanksgiving and his yearly crawfish boil, and treasured time spent with friends and family. A true craftsman at heart, Michael was always tinkering, building, or working on a new project. He was a devoted LSU football fan and found joy in skiing with family, fishing, and tending to his beloved vegetable garden.

He is survived by his loving mother, Nelda Joy Holt; his son, Nicholas Elton Bertrand and wife Claire; grandchildren, Samuel and Zoe Bertrand; sister, Terri Thacker; and brother, Kenneth Bertrand Jr.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Joseph Bertrand Sr., and his sister, Tracy McDonald.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles, LA. Visitation will begin that morning at 10:00 AM until the time of service. Internment will take place at Consolata Cemetery.
