Michael "Scott" Fuselier passed away on March 30, 2026 at the age of 64. A native of Eunice, LA, who spent many of his formative and adult years in Sulphur and Ragley, Scott was a beloved husband, brother, son, father, Papa, uncle, cousin and friend. His passing is a deeply felt loss for his family who will miss his love for long drives on back roads with no specific destination, his passion for American and Louisiana history and politics, and his many phone calls just to "shoot the breeze" and talk about nothing in particular.
Educated at St. Edmund Catholic School in Eunice and a 1979 graduate of Sulphur High School, Scott studied at Sowela Technical and worked for many years at Chemical Waste Management and U.S. Filter (Siemens/Evoqua). He raised three children, passing along his pride in his Cajun heritage with frequent visits to his hometown, historical sites and scenic byways in southwest Louisiana. He loved learning about his ancestors, Gabriel Fuselier de la Claire and Agricole Fuselier de la Claire, spending countless hours researching and visiting their ancestral homes.
Scott was an active member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV), serving as Commander from 2019-2022 and leading his camp in its work in the community through re-enactments and historic preservation. His lifelong hobbies included hunting and fishing, cheering for his beloved LSU Tigers and yelling at his equally beloved (but often frustrating) New Orleans Saints. An avid lover of motorcycles since childhood, he took several road trips around the country to explore the American West and beyond. He loved taking his grandchildren hunting, teaching them to fish, and sharing his life lessons (and occasional bad habits) with them. He never met a link of boudin that he didn't want to try - his children fondly recall his frequent weekend morning purchase of a pound of boudin from The Boudin Kitchen enjoyed with a glass of milk.
He is survived by his loving wife, Leiah Sheffield Fuselier, mother Priscilla Fuselier, daughter Kacie Fuselier Gurney (James), daughter Holly Reves (Clint), and son Michael Fuselier (Courtney). Step daughter Katie Baird, His eight grandchildren will carry his memory with them always: Emma, Ryleigh, Max, Mason, Chip, Amelia, Jude and Crew. Mother in law Gerry Sheffield, sister in law Linda Ramsey (Sean), Brother in Law Craig Sheffield (Stephanie). He always counted his four cousins as close as siblings: Jim Holford, Barry Holford, Tim Holford and Debbie Holford Logan.
He was preceded in death by his father, Burleigh James Fuselier, brother, David James Fuselier, and Father in Law Lanis Sheffield.
A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday April 7, 2026 at 10:00 AM at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Ragley, LA, with burial to follow at Magnolia Cemetery in Ragley, LA.
Visitation will take place Monday April 6, 2026 from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM with a Rosary at 6:30pm, at Johnson Funeral Home in Moss Bluff.
The family thanks Brighton Bridge Hospice of Oberlin, LA, for their care and compassion during Scott's final weeks.
In the words of Scott, Dad, Papa: "Adios." We love you and we will miss you forever.
