Michael “Mike” Gerard Olsen, age 62, passed away on May 27, 2021, after a short fight with cancer. Mike was born in Sulphur, La. on February 27, 1959, to Gerald Olsen and Peggy LeDoux. He lived in Carlyss for most of his life.
Mike was a father to all boys – Cody, Corey, Cooper and Gage Olsen, and Dalton and Hunner Drake. He was incredibly proud of his boys for their work ethic, school success and was honored to see his oldest two become fathers themselves.
Known as an extremely hard worker, and one who couldn’t sit still for long, Mike spent the last 15 years as the Maintenance Manager for the West Cal Arena and Events Center. Everyone who came to the arena knew Mike and looked forward to working with him on their events.
Outside of work, his time was most importantly spent with his boys, followed by hunting and fishing. He loved a good cold Miller Lite and cutting up with friends, who really were more like family. Staying close their entire lives, the friends were a tight-knit group, and always one call away when they needed each other. Many weekends were spent together hunting by day and playing cards by night.
At home, Mike would relax by watching westerns, playing on Facebook or working in his garden. He didn’t know how to keep a small garden, which meant everyone left with a bag full of produce after visits. Sundays were his time to show off his crops and serve dinner to his family.
Above all, a man of few words but with a sensational love for his family will be sorely missed.
He leaves to honor his memory his mother Peggy LeDoux; sons, Cody Olsen and wife Jessica, Corey Olsen and wife Terri, and Cooper and Gage Olsen, all of Sulphur, Dalton Drake of MS, and Hunner Drake of PA; his sisters, Geri Doyle and husband Clyde of Hineston, La., Debbie Duhon and husband Jay of Sulphur, La., and Lea Ann Perkins and husband Matt of Carlyss, La. He was Pop to two precious grandchildren Evie Lynn and Avery Kip Olsen.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Lynn Olsen.
A service to honor Mike’s life will be held at 10am, Monday, May 31, 2021 at Johnson & Robison Funeral Home of Sulphur. Burial will follow at Mimosa Pines Cemetery South of Carlyss. Father Luke Krzanowski, M.S. will officiate. Visitation will be in Johnson & Robison Funeral Home 4 – 9p.m, Sunday May 30th, with a Recitation of the Rosary at 6pm and will resume Monday 8am – time of service at 10am.
