Mildred Rose Friesner Mere, 96, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 7:05 PM on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 in her residence.
Mrs. Mere was born August 20, 1922 in Westlake, LA, where she graduated Valedictorian of Westlake High School in 1939. She worked and helped to run the family business, Mere’s Grocery. Mrs. Mere was a past member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church and a member of St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church. She was one of the strongest, smartest and most loving women we knew. Her love for her family was unquestionable as she lived her life to serve others. She was the quiet strength behind many in her life, never once looking to claim the credit.
Mrs. Mere is survived by her daughter, Trudy Hutton and husband Tom of Lake Charles; step-sons, Claby Mere, Jr. and wife Julie of Lake Charles and Arcin Mere and wife Joyce of San Antonio, TX; daughter-in-law, Clo Ellen Mere of Lake Charles; eleven grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Claby Mere; son, Johnny Mere; parents, Oland and Georgia Friesner; and six siblings.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 5, 2018 at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church. Monsignor James Gaddy will officiate. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Thursday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Rosary at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Friday at the funeral home from 9:00 AM to 10:45 AM.
