Murphy J. Tyson, 93, of Lake Charles passed away at 4:50 AM on Sunday, October 25, 2015 at Landmark Nursing Home surrounded by family. Mr. Tyson was born on October 9, 1922 in Montgomery, LA and was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles. He was a graduate of Verda High School in Verda, LA and attended Normal College (Northwestern) in Ruston, LA and also Montana State University. Mr. Tyson served in the US Army Air Force during World War II. He owned and operated a company as a chemical engineer consultant to drilling mud companies. Mr. Tyson was a member of University United Methodist Church and was a 32nd Degree Mason. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 74 years, Ruth Tyson; three children, Barney Tyson (Eileen) of Austin, Charlotte Irene Tyson Dyer (Richard) of The Woodlands, TX, and Rev. Glynn Tyson (Nina) of Bailey, TX; two siblings, Mary Lois Tyson Humble of Minden, LA and Harry Shannon Tyson (Georgia) of Sulphur Springs, TX; seven grandchildren; and nineteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lela and Edward Barney Tyson; nine siblings; and two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. His son, Rev. Glynn Tyson will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Garden Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM until the start of the service.
