Myra Fontenot Daniels, 95, of Lake Charles, LA, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, July 10, 2017. Myra was born on February 14, 1922, in Indian Bayou, LA to her parents John and Orelia Landry Dubose.
Myra attended school in Indian Bayou and graduated from Crowley High School where she was an outstanding basketball player. She married D.W. Fontenot and moved to Orange, TX, where they were very active in the local church. They later moved to Sulphur, LA, where they founded Southside Assembly of God Church. They served the church side-by-side, as ordained ministers, for many years until the death of her husband.
Myra was a mighty prayer warrior, who believed very strongly in the promises of God. She served as a leader of Women’s Ministry, Southwest Section of the Assemblies of God. She also served her church as a long-time Sunday School teacher. She worked for the State of Louisiana in the Welfare Department. Her church and her family were the center of her life.
Myra is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, D.W. Fontenot and her second husband, Melvin Daniels. She is also preceded by her son, Buddy Fontenot and her grandson, James H. “Jimbo” Fontenot, Jr., along with three sisters and two brothers.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, James (Sharon) Fontenot and Bonita (Roger) Blair, along with her daughter-in-law, Patricia Sue (John) Webb. Myra has three grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren who will dearly miss her.
Myra’s family will receive friends beginning at 1PM on Friday, July 14, 2017, at Johnson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2PM, officiated by Rev. Gary Evers and Rev. Stephen Perry at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Prien Memorial Park.
