Myrtis Mary Kay passed away peacefully on January 4, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and caregiver whose life was centered around love, family, and service to others.
Myrtis was a full-time mom, a cherished "Granny," and a caregiver in every sense of the word. She met the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Kay, at the Pelican Skating Rink on Hodges Street in Lake Charles when she was just 14 years old. The two were married on November 3, 1956, and shared 69 beautiful years together.
She was an avid crocheter and quilter and an extremely talented seamstress who lovingly made clothes and cared for everyone around her. Myrtis was also wonderful in the kitchen, known for her baking and canning. She enjoyed deer hunting and fishing, always alongside her husband Bob, and the two loved camping together throughout their lives.
In her later years, Myrtis developed a deep love for reading, which became a new hobby after she was unable to crochet or sew any longer. She also treasured her many "girls trips," especially those spent with her daughter and granddaughters.
She is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Robert "Bob" Kay; her daughters, Belinda Kay Olivier, Tina Edwards, Vicky Simon (Roger Sr.), and Penny Ward; her siblings, Judy Farmer, Harry Butaud Jr., and Cindy Wicke; her grandchildren, Summer Grimm (Michael), Roger Simon Jr. (Kelly), Jeff Edwards (Annmarie), Nicky Doran, Sarah Meche (Scott), and Robert Ward (Taylor); her great-grandchildren, Austin, Justin, Eddie, Logan, Kailey, Calista, Jacob, Olivia, Braedan, Jasmine, Sabra, Bryton, Giovanni, Landry, Cameron, and Morgan; ten great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Harry Butaud Sr. and Margaret Ewing Butaud; her son-in-law, Derwin Ward; her granddaughters, Sandy Edwards and Brandy Simon; and her great-grandson, Xavier Simon.
A funeral service in honor of Myrtis will take place on Thursday January 8, 2026 at 2:00Pm at Johnson Funeral Home in Moss Bluff. Visitation will begin at noon and a graveside service will follow the service at Westlake memorial cemetery in Westlake, LA
