Nanette Brooks

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nanette Brooks, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, who left this world just one day shy of her 85th birthday on October 8, 2026. Born on October 9, 1941, in Mamou, Louisiana, Nanette spent her life surrounded by family and friends before finally settling in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

A proud graduate of LaGrange High School, Nanette was a devoted member of the East Ridge Baptist Church, where she found solace and strength in her faith and community. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family; she was a cherished matriarch, fondly remembered by her sons, Troy Brooks, Randy Brooks (Coleen), her daughter, Catherine Lynn Flowers (Billy). She is also survived by her brothers, Allen Bullard, Scott Bullard (Ann), and M.J. Fontenot, along with her nine treasured grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Nanette found joy in life's simple pleasures, whether it was traveling to new places or enjoying a refreshing beer on her back porch, where laughter was often shared among family. Her ability to spread warmth and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew her.A memorial service will be held on October 17, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home of Iowa. Prior to the service, a gathering of friends will take place starting at 12:00 PM, allowing loved ones to come together in remembrance and celebration of a life well-lived. 

Nanette's spirit will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends; her legacy of love and laughter will continue to shine bright in the lives she touched.

Nanette was preceded in death by her parents, Morless Fontenot and Esa Vezinot; her stepfather, Olen "Bud" Bullard; her sisters, Betty Lloyd, Della Adams, and her daughter-in-law, Milisa "Mitzi" Brooks.
