Evangeline- Nelarine Benoit, born September 28, 1940, daughter of the late Willie Abraham and Aline (Simar) Abraham, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2020, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 79.
Nelarine was born and raised in Evangeline. She and her husband, Thomas, were members of New Life Tabernacle. Her family and church were a constant source of strength. She enjoyed baking and cooking for her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Thomas Benoit; children, Darla Benoit; Tammy Parsley (Craig); Kevin Benoit (Stacey); Derrin Benoit (Rebecca); siblings, Myrtis Abraham; Maisie Gatte; Thelma Boutin; Ray Abraham; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Nelarine is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Margery Smith; granddaughter, Jennifer Benoit; great-granddaughter, Holly Parsley.
Funeral services are Sunday, February 16, 2020 at 2 p.m. in Hope Church in Evangeline. Burial will follow in Bluff Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa. Visitation is Saturday in Hope Church from 3 p.m. until 10 p.m. and will resume Sunday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. Pallbearers assisting in her service are Royce Simar; CJ Benoit; Derek Benoit; Chris Clay; Chuck Parsley; Chris Eason; David Chapman; Kenneth Abraham; serving as honorary pallbearers are Bryce Clay; Ashton Benoit.
The family would like to thank Heart of Hospice and all of Nelarine’s friends and family that assisted in her care.
