Nelda M. Cookson, born on November 27, 1934, in Iowa, passed away peacefully at a local hospital on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at the age of 90. She was the beloved daughter of the late Alfred and Libby (DeRouen) Ardoin.
A devoted homemaker, Nelda took great pride in caring for her family. She found joy in crocheting and working on word puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James “Jimmy” Cookson; her parents; and her brother, Sonny Ardoin.
Nelda leaves behind a legacy of love and family. She is survived by her children: Christine Skubal (Terry), Kathy Cookson, Alan Cookson (Barbara), Janine Smith (Koony), Jeffery Cookson, and Dwayne Cookson (James); sisters, Norma Lee Guillory, and Priscilla Richard (Russell) seven grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa on Friday, July 11, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa.
