Nelda Mae Bruce Monk

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nelda Mae Bruce Monk, 89, of Iowa, Louisiana, who left us on July 14, 2026. Born on October 25, 1936, in Moss Bluff, Louisiana, Nelda lived a life rich with love, dedication, and remarkable accomplishments.

Nelda made significant strides in the finance industry as a dedicated employee of Calcasieu Marine, where she made history as the first female vice president during her 39 years of service. Her passion for banking was matched only by her commitment to her community and her fellow women, as evidenced by her active membership in the National Association of Bank Women.

A devoted member of the Iowa First United Methodist Church, Nelda was known for her unwavering faith and her love for teaching Sunday school. She served tirelessly as the church secretary and treasurer, embodying a spirit of generosity and service that inspired those around her.

Nelda cherished her family above all else. She is survived by her daughter, Dana Frankland (Charles); her sons, David Monk (Gretchen) and Daniel Monk (Donna); her grandchildren, Lantz Monk (Sydney), Catherine Monk Miller (Wes), Emily Monk Napper (Collin), and Kyle Monk (Lauren); as well as her adored great-grandchildren: Lorraine Monk, Henry Monk, Annie Monk, Jo Miller, and Cameron Napper. Her legacy of love and nurturing will continue through them.

Beyond her professional and community endeavors, Nelda found joy in tending to her flowers and spending precious moments with her family. Her laughter, compassion, and warmth will be deeply missed.

A funeral service honoring Nelda's life will be held at Johnson Funeral Home of Iowa on Friday, July 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. She will be laid to rest in Old Ritchie Cemetery.

In this time of sorrow, we find solace in the memories of Nelda's kind spirit and inspiring legacy. She will forever hold a special place in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Nelda was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Monk, Jr.; her son, Robert Lee Monk, III.; her parents, Charles and Thelma Hetrick Bruce; her brothers, Doyle Bruce, Robert Bruce, Charles "Perry" Bruce; and also her fur babies.
