Nicole Chantal Delage Newsome, 87, of Lake Charles passed away Friday August 2nd, 2024 in a local healthcare facility.

Mrs. Newsome was born the second of twelve children to Leonard Delage and Jeanne Adrienne Rousseau Delage in LaRochelle, France. She was raised and educated and earned a degree as a Registered Nurse in France. It was there that she met her sweetheart at nineteen and married him at twenty-one. Mrs. Newsome followed her husband’s military career, which transferred them to the states. Eventually transferring to Lake Charles where she has lived for over sixty years. Being the 2nd eldest of twelve children, she became a beautiful seamstress, making everything from socks to window curtains. She took great pride in sewing a lace veil train for her daughter’s wedding and lace bedding with satin sheets for her grandchildren’s bassinets. She was also gifted with a green thumb, loved gardening and arranging flowers and was a member and past President of the Diggers and Weeders Garden Club. Mrs. Newsome loved cooking, decorating and entertaining for gatherings of family and friends and especially loved planning and decorating for festive holidays and proper, perfectly set events. Mrs. Newsome was a joyful soul with an abundantly happy spirit and genuine zest for life. A lady of faith and family, she was a long-time member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church.

She leaves to cherish her memory, two children, David Scott Newsome (Wanda) of Merriam KS; daughter, Melissa Newsome Broussard (Ricky) of Lake Charles; son-in-law, Steve Rawson; daughter-in-law, Georgia Newsome; seventeen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Bodie Newsome of Jacksonville, TX, father of Patrick and Philip Newsome of Lake Charles; sisters-in-law, Suzie Kincannon, mother of Allen Kincannon of New Orleans and Cathy Kincannon of Lake Charles; Nhylia Joyce Moore of Baton Rouge, mother of Maureen and David Moore and extended family and friends. She also leaves her two sisters, Lillian Janine Delage and Marie-Jose Viviane Delage and three brothers, Gerard Gabriel Delage, Patrick Alain Delage, and Jean-Luc Didier Delage.

She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-seven years, Homer Russell Newsome; two children, Eddie “JLP” Newsome and Patricia Newsome Rawson and one granddaughter, Tracy Augustine; five brothers, Jaquie Pierre Delage, Claude Jaque Leonard Delage, Bernard Albert Delage, Serge Guy Delage, and Phillip Thierry Delage and one sister, Sylvie Francoise Delage.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Wednesday August 7th, 2024 in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles. Interment services will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.

In celebration of her vibrant spirit, the family requests attendees wear bright colors.
