Nita Benoit Cole

March 3, 1942 — May 27, 2021

Nita Ann Benoit Cole, 79, of Lake Charles passed away Thursday, May 27, 2021 in a local healthcare facility.

Ms. Cole was born and raised in Oberlin, LA, the youngest of ten children to Clovis and Kathryn Olivier Benoit.  She lived most of her life in Lake Charles.  She and her husband chose Lake Charles to be the home, where they raised their twin boys.  Once the boys were in high school, Ms. Cole began her twenty-five-year tenure as a school bus driver for the Calcasieu Parish School Board.  She then awaited her first grandchild and looked forward to helping with her grandchildren.  She was an avid Young and the Restless and New Orleans Saints fan!  She also enjoyed cooking, Pokeno group, gatherings of family and friends and holidays.  Her door was always open and her spirit always welcoming.  Ms. Cole will be most remembered for her sincere interest in family and friends, lending a listening ear and for ALWAYS being there.  She will be greatly missed.

She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Curtis James Cole and wife Donna of Lake Charles and Carl Ray Cole and wife Rachella of Moss Bluff; four grandchildren, Hunter Guillory, Madalyn Guillory, Davon Cole and Marae Cole; one great-grandchild, Ainsley Lee and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of twenty-nine years, Carl Jerry Cole; her parents; two brothers and seven sisters.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at University Baptist Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  Father Aubrey Guilbeau will officiate.  Interment will follow in Consolata cemetery.  Visitation Tuesday will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary beginning at 6:30 PM.  Visitation Wednesday will be from 9:00 AM until the time of service in the church.
