Oliver R. “Matt” Mathieux
Oliver R. “Matt” Mathieux, born January 12, 1928 in Geneva, FL, son of the late Orie and Kathleen (Campbell) Mathieux, passed away in a local care facility Monday, May 21, 2018, at the age 90.
He was a native of Geneva, FL and graduated from Sanford High School. Matt attended SE of Florida University. He worked for Western Electric, South Central Bell and AT & T with 40 years of service. He retired as manager with AT & T in Lake Charles. Matt came to Louisiana in 1976 and made Lake Charles his home in 1978, where he resided until his death. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneer Club, having served as president. Matt was a member of the Cajun Caravan Camping Club and the Good Sam Club. Matt enjoyed camping, fishing, playing cards and telling stories.
Matt is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Geri Mathieux of Iowa; daughters, Sheila Mace and Olivia Miller (Greg) of Geneva, FL; sons, David Mathieux (Teri) of Geneva, FL, Dan Mathieux (Marcia) of Denver, Co, Stan Mathieux of Geneva, FL, Ollie Mathieux (Marie), of Castleberry, FL; step-daughter, Trudy L. Guillory (Margot) of Broussard, LA, step-daughter-in law, Sheila Guillory of Iowa, LA; numerous grandchildren & great-grandchildren. Also surviving Matt are his brother, Donald Mathieux (Mary Lou) of West Virginia. He is preceded in death by his parents; step-sons, Randy and Joel “Joey” Guillory, siblings, George S. Mathieux, Mildred Geiger.
Funeral services are Friday, May 25, 2018 in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa at 10 a.m. with Father Roland Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery in Elton. Visitation is Thursday from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m., with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. and resumes Friday from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m.
