Patricia KayLynn Martin Charles, 52, died Monday, February 8, 2016, in her residence.
Born in Pomona, California, Mrs. Charles was a fun-spirited, wild soul who loved to laugh and make those around her laugh. She was a wonderful cook for twelve years, which she did with pride until she was physically unable. It was at her job that she met her husband, the love of her life, Andre’. They instantly connected and married shortly after meeting on January 10, 2007. She always said she waited so long to marry because she was waiting for Andre’. Their love was unconditional and eternal.
Another source of her pride were her three children, Angela, Michelle and Mel, Jr., as well as her eight grandchildren. She lived entirely for her family. She fought a hard and courageous battle with cancer and held on until the very end. She wanted as many days as she could have with her family and friends. She was loved by all who knew her, and she will be sorely missed.
Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Andre’ L. Charles; one son, Melvin McCormack and wife Jennifer of Ardmore, Oklahoma; two daughters, Angela Klohn and Justin Williams of El Reno, Oklahoma and Michelle McCormack of Lake Charles; her father, John W. Martin of Oregon; her mother, Carolyn Sue Hall of Amarillo, Texas; two brothers, Karl Martin and wife Carol of Lake Charles and Kenneth Martin, also of Oregon; one sister, Kathleen Carter and husband Don, also of Lake Charles; and eight grandchildren, Dolan Pawnee, Chandler White, Hunter Klohn, Madison Klohn, Joey Klohn, Bethany McCormack, Isac McCormack, and Rider McCormack.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Karen Carnicello.
A memorial service honoring Mrs. Charles’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 12, 2016, at the Lake Charles Civic Center. Cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home.
The family would like to express their grateful appreciation for the compassionate care given their loved one to the doctors and staff of Heart of Hospice, and especially to her nurse, Courtney Kelley.
