Patricia “Patty” Daigle Swafford, 90, died at 6:35 AM surrounded by her family on December 23, 2015. A graveside service at Mimosa Pines Cemetery in Carlyss will be held 1 PM on Monday, December 28, 2015.
Patricia Lee Daigle was born in Church Point on January 30, 1925, to Mary Enid Richard Daigle and George Albert Daigle. She attended Church Point High School where she was first drum major of the school band and represented Church Point at the Rice Festival in Crowley in 1941. The American Legion Award was presented to Patty upon graduation from High School.
Patty continued her education at SLI (currently University of Louisiana at Lafayette) and transferred to Charity Hospital School of Nursing in New Orleans, where she met her husband, Jack Swafford, who was an intern at Charity Hospital. While attending nursing school, Patty was selected as queen of the Beauty Court as judged by movie director Cecil B. DeMille. She graduated in 1945 and married soon after.
Patty lived with her husband in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, California prior to her husband’s deployment to Germany as part of the U.S. Army Constabulary. Patty joined her husband a year later with their daughter, Jackie.
In 1948, she helped her husband establish a medical practice in Vinton. In1950 they moved to Sulphur. Patty was active in Camp Fire, PTA, Band Booster Club, and served as president of Sulphur’s Brimstone Museum and Historical Society. She was a member of the Sulphur Garden Club for over 50 years, was a life member of the Louisiana Garden Club Federation, and won numerous awards for her creative floral designs. She loved to share her knowledge of creative design with the fellow garden club members.
Patty was an active member of the Republican Women of Southwest Louisiana and was proud to be the first woman elected to represent Southwest Louisiana on the Republican State Central Committee.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack W. Swafford, M.D., and sisters Robin Daigle Rohrman and Enid Daigle Thompson.
She is survived by her daughters, Jackie Swafford Gillane (Jeff), Kathy Swafford Keever, and Debbie Swafford Ford; her brother, Richard E. Daigle, Sr.; grandchildren, Jefferson Gillane (Susan), Bridget Gillane, Michelle Keever Landry (Cody), David Keever (Anna), Logan Ford, Meredith Ford Brassette (Kevin); and three great grandchildren, Braxton Landry, Alicia Keever and Payton Keever.
