Paul "Lloyd" Miller, Jr.

November 25, 1947 — January 16, 2026

Paul “Lloyd” Miller, Jr., 78, passed away suddenly on Friday, January 16, 2026.

Lloyd was born on November 25, 1947, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, to Paul and Ida Miller. He grew up in Iowa, Louisiana, and graduated from Iowa High School in 1965. He proudly served in the United States Navy and later remained active in the Naval Reserves. Lloyd went on to graduate from McNeese State University.

On December 20, 1970, he married the love of his life, Sharon Landry. Together they built a life rooted in faith, service, and family.

Lloyd dedicated 36 years to the Lake Charles Fire Department, where he served as Chief of Communications and later as Administrative Assistant to the Fire Chief. During his time with the department, he especially enjoyed bringing joy and education to children in his role as “HamBone,” the Fire Safety Clown. After retiring from the fire department, he continued serving the community by working for several years with Calcasieu Parish OHSEP as a Communications Planner.

Ordained as a Deacon in 1991, Lloyd served faithfully for many years and lived out his faith through mission trips to Central America. He was an avid runner who competed in numerous marathons across the country. He also enjoyed being a HAM radio operator, repairing electronics and lawn mowers, and was always willing to lend a helping hand whenever something needed to be done. He enjoyed his weekly Friday morning breakfasts at Southern Spice with the ROMEOs (Retired Old Men Eating Out), a tradition filled with friendship and laughter.

Lloyd’s favorite role in life was that of husband, Dad, and Pop. He cherished time spent with his family, visiting, traveling, and cruising around the world. He was his family’s biggest supporter in all their endeavors. A devoted McNeese Cowboys fan with a heart full of blue and gold, Lloyd proudly passed his love for McNeese on to his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Ida Miller.

Lloyd is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sharon Landry Miller; his daughter, Sarah Miller Newton (Dean); his two beloved grandchildren, Hunter Newton, and Hannah Newton; and three siblings, Susan Guidry, Johnny Miller, and Clara Miller. He is also survived by a large and loving extended family.
