With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend.
He lived life with his whole heart. He loved his family fiercely, loved rock crawling in his jeep, and found joy in adventure of the open road.
He was a dedicated employee of Phillips 66 for twenty-eight years where he took pride in his work and the people he worked with.
Those who knew him best will remember his laughter, adventurous spirit and sense of humor. He was a walking encyclopedia and knew everything about everything.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of forty years, Sue Vera; his daughter, Nicole Vera Delgado (Dave); his mother, Patricia Vera; his sister, Gilda Vera LeBouef (Cliff – his drinking buddy); his brother, Neil Vera (Teedy); his grandson, Blaise Vera; his favorite nieces and nephews; and his fur baby girl, Bella.
He was preceded in death by his father, Rene Vera Sr.; his brothers, Rene Vera Jr., and Quin Vera; and his mother-in-law, Theresa LeBouef.
His funeral will be held at 1:30 PM, Thursday, August 20, 2026 in the chapel of Johnson Funeral Home, 4321 Lake Street, with Fr. Paul Jussen serving as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 AM until the start of the service, with a rosary being recited at 12:30 PM.
