Philip Abshire, Sr., 91, was called by our Lord to eternal rest on January 10, 2016, with his family by his side.
Mr. Abshire was born February 15, 1924 in Lyons Point, LA, to the late Artheus and Leah Abshire. He was raised in Kaplan, LA, served in World War II as an Army military policeman, then in 1968 settled his family down in Lake Charles, LA. During his time on this earth, carpentry was his lifelong trade until he opened and operated Abshire Trenching.
Philip was a humble, hard-working, faithful family man who touched numerous people. His crystal blue eyes, addicting smile and loving nature will be missed immensely.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
2 Timothy 4:7
Philip was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Ada Harrington, Orlene Broussard, Viola Henry, and Lucille Trahan; and his infant daughter, Catherine Suzette.
Left to carry his legacy is his devoted wife of seventy years, Grace Thibodeaux Abshire; sons, Phillip Abshire, Jr. and wife Maureen and Brian Abshire and wife Nina; grandchildren, Alicia Williams and husband Luke, Nicole Posch and husband Brad, Phillip Abshire, III and wife Aimee, Sabrina Racca and husband Justin, Christopher Abshire and wife Leighann, Helen Rachelle Abshire, and Joshua Cabe Abshire and wife Monica; and twenty great-grandchildren.
His funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Father Ruben Buller will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Tuesday from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a rosary at 6:00 PM and continue on Wednesday from 8:00 AM to 10:15 AM.
