Philip Derise passed away peacefully at his home in Lake Charles on Friday, July 7, 2017 with his wife Shirley by his side.
Philip was born in Nederland, Texas on January 11, 1956 to the late Bob & Weebee Derise. He graduated from Orangefield High School and attended McNeese State University.
He was a retired pipefitter but his greatest gift was his love and devotion to Shirley. Philip & Shirley overcame many obstacles in their 42 years of marriage and shared many joys. He loved being an uncle and enjoyed mentoring students at Barbe High School where Shirley taught for many years.
He is survived by his beloved wife Shirley, mother-in-law Yoko Wells, sister-in-law Peggy Scott and husband Jim, sister-in-law Janet Scott and husband Roy, nieces Ashley Scott and Erica Bunnell and husband Daniel, nephews Michael Scott and Aaron Savoy and wife Candice, great nieces Ava and Elliana Bunnell and Kinsley and Ashlynn Savoy and the many young people and friends that he considered his “family”. He is preceded in death by his father-in-law Walter Godeau.
A celebration of life will be held at Prien Lake Park at 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2017. Pastor Sherman Soileau will lead the ceremony.
