Preston "Pj" James Gary Jr.

May 3, 1980 — April 27, 2021

Preston “PJ” James Gary, Jr., born in Welsh on May 3, 1980, son of Preston James Gary, Sr., and the late Lovina Kay Reed Breaux, passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2021, due to complications from COVID, at the age of 40.

PJ was a Quality Control Manager with the oil & gas industry. He was a devout disciple of Jesus Christ. He was active in the Catholic church and was a Professor of the Men’s Cursillo and involved with “That Man is You.” PJ was a devoted New Orleans Saint and LSU fan. His faithful spirit will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Lovina Kay Reed Breaux, maternal grandparents, Leon Reed, Sr., and Nellie Comeaux Reed; paternal grandparents, Joseph C. Gary, and Agnes Sonnier Gary.

PJ is survived by his wife of 17 years, Jessica Stelly Gary of Branch; father, Preston James Gary, Sr. and wife, Sallie, of Lake Arthur; daughters, Emily, and Brooklyn Gary; sisters, Crystal Dirk (Fred, Jr.) of Lake Charles; Natalie Gary of Lake Arthur; stepfather, Jeffrey Breaux of Lake Charles; brother-in-law, Joshua Stelly and wife, Jacqueline; niece and nephews, Isabella, and Cohen Stelly; and Tre & Cameron Dirk.


Funeral mass will be held in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lacassine on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Ted Broussard, Celebrant. Inurnment will follow in Lacassine Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa. A Cursillo rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family to help with medical expenses.


As per the request of the family, facial coverings are required.
