Elmer Ray Cart, Jr., 61, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2025 following a brief illness.
Mr. Cart was born on December 12, 1963 in Jennings, LA to the late Elmer Ray Cart, Sr. and EvaDell Marie Meaux Cart. He was well known as “Ray” and to many, “Ray Boy”. He worked as a truck driver most of his life. During his downtime, he loved tinkering with lawnmowers and small engine repairs, always intrigued in taking things apart to see how they worked. He was a kind-hearted man with a quiet strength and a gentle spirit. He enjoyed the simple things in life and had a deep love for his family, friends, and Cajun heritage. In his younger years, Ray established RC DJ and played for entertainment for good time gatherings. He had a true passion for Cajun Music and could often be found playing his accordion, tapping his foot to a good tune or sharing stories that celebrated the culture he held dear. He loved to go dancing; he and his dear friend Martha were members of the Dance Troup and was said to look like they were dancing on air. He was a former President of the Cajun French Music Association where he maintained the building and the grounds for the Association for years. He also looked forward to the festival and helped his sister with merchandising and ticket sales every year. He will be greatly missed.
He leaves to honor his memory, his loving sister, Vicki Jo Cart Bailey; nephews, Clifford Bailey and Richard Bailey of Lake Charles; nieces, Tammy Bailey Johnson of Lake Charles, Amy Cart Goldsmith (David) of Houma and Diana Gail Cart Heer (Travis) of Lake Havasu City, AZ; uncle and godfather, Ricky Savoy (Debbie) of Orange, TX ; a host of great nieces and great nephews whom he loved dearly. He also leaves his lifelong devoted friend, Martha Gaspard, who remained by his side through the years with unwavering care and friendship.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Brenda Cart Louviere; brother-in-law, Robert L. Bailey; nieces, Amanda Bailey Williams and Kathleen Bailey; nephew-in-law, Dene Johnson and dear friend, LaWanna Lewis.
