Ray Koonce, Jr. passed away on July 16, 2017 at his residence.
Mr. Koonce was born to Collas and Margie Koonce in Shreveport, LA on March 18, 1952. At the age of 3, his family moved to Lake Charles. He attended LaGrange High School where he played on the football team. After graduating from LaGrange, he obtained an Electrical Engineering Degree from McNeese State University where he was initiated as a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. Shortly after obtaining his degree, Mr. Koonce began working at his family’s business, Coastal Perforators. Most recently, he was a card dealer at the Isle of Capri Casino before retiring.
He will be remembered as a loving husband and father and for the special bond he had with his daughter Sarah. He was Sarah’s rock and strongest advocate. He is said to have never met a stranger. He enjoyed fishing, classic western movies, and spending time with his family.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Paula Elaine Koonce; children, Sarah Elizabeth Koonce and Aaron Michael Koonce; mother, Margie Greer Koonce; sister, Janice Dartez; brothers, Morris Koonce (Kathy) and Donnie Koonce (Sherrie); numerous nieces and nephews; and his two beloved dogs, Xena and Lucy.
He was preceded in death by his father, Collas Ray Koonce, Sr. and brother, Allen Larry Koonce.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday July, 19, 2017, at 3 PM at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Steve James will officiate. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5 PM until 9 PM and will resume on Wednesday from 10 AM until the start of the service.
