Ray Joseph White

July 31, 1946 — May 12, 2016

After a momentary battle with cancer, Ray Joseph White peacefully passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2016 in Lake Charles, LA at the age of 69 in Resthaven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center while under Brighton Bridge Hospice services, where he received great, peaceful, and respectful care. He leaves behind his four children; eight grand-children; one great-grandson; a host of nieces & nephews, and an abundance of close friends, and relatives.

Ray was born on July 31, 1946 in Elton, LA, to the late Gilbert White & Laura B. White, both of Elton, LA, who predeceased him. He grew up in a large humorous, and loving family with two brothers, Arthur Brown of Garyville, LA, and Leo White of Elton, LA; two sisters LeAnna Deville of Fenton, LA, and Alice Duhe of Garyville, LA.

Ray operated closely with the Corbello family for many years, even throughout the untimely death of William “Billy” Corbello, whose bond was as close as a brother. As those years went on, two separate friends became intertwined into one large family, where dedication remains true, and continues even throughout his final departure.

Ray’s passion was for the outdoors, which included fishing, and hunting. He also enjoyed making others laugh, and enjoying time with family, and friends. His kindhearted spirit, and generosity will forever be remembered among those whom he encountered. When diagnosed with esophageal cancer in January 2016, he remained dedicated to his work with the Corbello family, and in his will to fight his illness. He remained a brave, iron-willed man, even throughout his final months.

Ray is survived by his sister LeAnna, and his four children, Maxine (Wallace) Guillory of Iowa, LA, Lawrence Guilbeaux, of Iowa, LA, Shannon (Rebekka) Guilbeaux, of Lake Charles, LA, and Alvin Vital, of Iowa, LA ; grandchildren, Amber White, of Iowa, LA, D’Andre Bartie, of Lake Charles, LA, Hailey Guillory, of Iowa, LA, Justin Guilbeaux, of Lafayette, LA, Lauren Guilbeaux, of Ville Platt, LA, Zhander Guillory, of Iowa, LA, Loni Guilbeaux, of Lake Charles, LA, and Josiah “Jojo” Guilbeaux, of Lake Charles, LA. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, and his sister Alice; his son, Ray Joseph “Joe” Guilbeaux (d.1998); and grandchildren, Joseph Guillory (d.2003), and Lori Guilbeaux, (d.2014).

He also preceded death of his significant other, Brenda Vital (d.2013), and the love that he had in his heart for her was beyond measure, and continued until he drew his last breath.

Funeral services will be in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa, on May 21, 2016 at 10 a.m. with Pastor Freddie Brown of New Providence Baptist Church serving as officiant. Visitation is Friday in the funeral home from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. and will resume Saturday from 8 a.m. until the time of service.

Ray will be interred in the family plot in Eternal Rest Cemetery in Elton, LA per his request.
