Iowa - Raymond Milton Arsement, born in Lake Charles on April 14, 1936, son of the late Volcar “June” and Rosalie (Richard) Arsement, passed away in the SW Louisiana Veterans Home on February 24, 2022, at the age of 85.
He served our country in the U. S. Army and retired in 1979 as 1st Sgt. His tours included Germany, Korea, and Vietnam. He was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Disabled American Veterans, where he served as the State Commander.
Throughout Raymond’s military career, he received honors and awards for outstanding leadership ability and exemplary initiative at the highest level with honors, including the Presidential Bronze Star medal.
The pride he felt serving in the military spilled over into other aspects of his life. He lived his life with honor and a code that carried him with humility and grace.
Raymond was an amazing husband, father and grandfather who was loved by all. He always put his family first, shepherding them through tough times. He was the first to welcome you into the room with a joyful and attentive smile. His loss feels irreplaceable.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Raymond Milton Arsement, Jr.; siblings, Selma Brown, LeRoy Arsement, Nelva Thibodeaux, and Mildred Lee.
Raymond is survived by his loving, and devoted wife of 63 years, Karin Arsement; daughter, Jeanette Arsement Blalock and husband, Mike Blalock of Dallas, TX; granddaughters, Alexandra Blalock of New York, NY and Victoria Blalock of Denver, CO; siblings, Lenes “Nick” Arsement of Chloe, LA and Mae Joyce Strahan of Alvin, TX.
A Mass of Christian burial will be in St. Raphael Catholic Church on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at 11 a.m. Rev. William Miller, Celebrant. Burial will follow in Lacassine Cemetery with military honors. Visitation begins Friday in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., with a rosary led by the Knights of Columbus, #3006 at 6:30 p.m. and will continue Saturday in the funeral home from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
