Raymond Warren Baker, 65, of Lake Charles, LA passed away at 6:06 AM on Friday, March 24, 2017 in the Jennings war veterans home.
Mr. Baker was born on June 10, 1951 in Maywood, CA and lived in Winder, GA until relocating back to Louisiana in 2014 where he resided in the Southwest Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jennings. Following his 1971 graduation from Lake Charles High School, he proudly served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Mr. Baker retired as a master mechanic and later retired as a master electrician.
He was a devoted Baptist who loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He cherished the holidays, his birthdays, gardening, and cooking for his family.
Those left to cherish his memory are two daughters, Dawn Beard (W.C.) of Holmwood, and Lydia Ogea (John) of Dequincy; two siblings, David Baker of Grand Lake and Margie Kent of Lake Charles; and five grandchildren, Brittany Miller, Chance Smudricks, Lydia “Beth” Barton and fiancé, Austin Fontenot, Colton Darbonne (Megan), and Kaylee Ogea.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Marion Finch; grandson, Kevin James Baker; and a brother-in-law, Stanley Kent.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to some special people for taking such tender, loving care of Mr. Baker. This includes Sheryl, Kristen, and Marcie with Lamm Hospice and Travis, Rosie, Karen, Joy, Valerie, and Norma at Southwest Louisiana War Veteran’s Home.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Ronnie Estes will officiate. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the start of the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family for outstanding expenses.
