Rebecca Ann Laird passed away December 16, 2016 after a lengthy illness at a local hospital.
Mrs. Laird was born and raised in the Lake Charles area. She graduated with the Class of 1975 as Valedictorian of Sulphur High School. Becky then attended Northwestern State and McNeese Universities. She attended Maplewood First Baptist Church. Professionally, she spent over twenty years as manager of McDonald’s Restaurants and was the Assistant Manager for US Unwired and AT&T Cellular until 2010. Becky spent her leisure time painting and other arts & crafts. Becky was a Softball Mom, her life was centered around her kids and grandkids.
She leaves behind her loving husband of thirty five years, Michael J. Laird of Sulphur; two daughters, Meghan Laird (Ricky Venable), and Samantha Laird-McLaughlin (Lee) of Sulphur; four grandchildren, Trey Laird, Devin Laird, Haylee Laird, and Cole McFarlain, brother, Todd Cox (Sharon) of Birmingham, AL; four sisters, Vicki Ogea (Reggie) of Covington, Sharon Priscilla Perry (Keith) of Sulphur, Melissa Kay Zaleski (Mike) of Muskogee, OK, and Jennifer Miller (Tony) of Sulphur; father and mother-in-law, Stanley and Edna Laird; and her step-mother, Carol Cox of Sulphur who raised her.
Rebecca is preceded in death by her father, Fitzhugh Lee Cox; mother, Shirley Ann Hodgkins Cox; grandparents; George and Goldie Cox, and Alan Ray and Roseanne Hodgkins.
A funeral service will be held at Johnson Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at 10 am. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Rev. Reggie Ogea will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 pm to 8 pm on Monday, December 19 at Johnson Funeral Home and will resume on Tuesday at 8 am until the start of the service.
