Remola Barton

June 30, 1928 — May 2, 2025

Remola R. Barton, born in Memphis, Tennessee, June 30, 1928, passed away quietly at her daughter's home in Lake Charles on May 2, 2025, at age 96.

She grew up a country girl in rural Newton County, Mississippi. Her mother Willie Mae and beloved grandfather William T. Cleveland (Papa Will) and grandmother (Grandma Sally) provided a good life for Remola and her identical twin sister Ramona. Later she moved to Mobile, Alabama, where she worked at Brookley Air Force Base during World War II. After the war ended, she attended cosmetology school in Mobile. It was in Mobile that she met the love of her life, Buzz.

Remola married Clarence Clifford Barton, III (Buzz) on September 19, 1948. (She waited more than two months after her twentieth birthday to marry because she refused to be a "teenage bride"!) Marriage eventually brought them to Lake Charles where she was a homemaker until early 1960's. After her four children were in school, she was hired by Calcasieu Parish School Food Service, retiring in 1988 as manager of Dolby Elementary School cafeteria.

She was a charter member of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church where she served several years on Altar Guild.

Remola is survived by three children: Stephanie Barton (Tom) McCalla, Kathryn Barton (Russell) Beasley, Clifford Barton; daughter-in-law Zona King Barton; seven grandchildren: Andrew (Heather) Barton, Christian Delafield, Kirsten (Wayne) Thibodeaux, Emily (Jordan) Falgoust, Rebecca (Juan) Sierra, Evan (Mary) Beasley, Garrett (Noelle) Beasley; and eleven great-grandchildren; her twin sister, Ramona Hunt and half-sister Rebecca Valentine and their families.

She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-nine years, her oldest son Roy B. Barton, infant son Stephen Barton, infant twin great-grandsons Juan Ramon and Juan Samuel Sierra, and half-sister Martha Moore.

Remola was deeply loved by her family and was forever the picture of Southern hospitality, always ready with a cup of coffee or a blueberry muffin.

She loved Jesus and has gained a new residence in Heaven with her Heavenly Father forever.

A special thank you goes to the registered Nurses from St. Joseph Hospice who did so much for her, Monica Lavine, Shannon Cassell and Tonia Kingham.

Last rites were administered to Remola by Father Drew Christianson of St. Michael's Church. She will be buried at Highland Memorial Gardens in Lake Charles under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted by Father Paul White at noon on Tuesday, May 6.

Well done, good and faithful servant!...Come and share your Master's happiness! Matthew 25:23.
