Rhonda Gayle Fontenot

Rhonda Gayle Fontenot, a beloved mother, sister, and grandmother, passed away on January 27, 2026, at the age of 64. Born on March 12, 1961, in Welsh, Louisiana, Rhonda spent her life deeply dedicated to her family and the children she served in her impactful profession as a juvenile probation officer for the Office of Juvenile Justice Services (OJJS). 

Rhonda graduated from Bell City High School and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education from McNeese State University. Her passion for helping others, particularly children navigating difficult circumstances, was evident in her work, specifically in the mental health court system within the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury. She was a source of light and inspiration to many, embodying compassion and understanding.

In her personal life, Rhonda found joy in various pursuits. She enjoyed playing cards, spending time at the casino, and riding four-wheelers. A talented musician, Rhonda had a unique love for the piano and often shared her musical gifts with family and friends. Nothing brought her more happiness than the moments spent with her grandchildren, Noah, Zoey, and Eli Goree, who were the true joys of her life.

Rhonda is survived by her devoted children, Stephanie Goree (Kelton), and Nathaniel Granger; her devoted companion, Wayne Granger; her loving brothers, Harrison Fontenot, Ronald Fontenot (Tina), and Michael Fontenot (Martha); father of her daughter, Chris Wales and her cherished grandchildren. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

A gathering of friends and family will be held in her honor at Johnson Funeral Home of Iowa on Friday, January 30, 2026, beginning at 11:00 am. A Celebration of Life will commence at 5:00 pm., with cremation to follow under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Iowa.

Rhonda's warm spirit and compassionate heart will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will forever remain in our hearts as a mother, sister, and friend whose legacy of love and service will carry on through the countless lives she touched.
