Richard Alan Daughenbaugh

Richard Alan "Dick" Daughenbaugh, a beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away Peacefully In his Holmwood, Louisiana residence, Sunday, September 13, 2026, at the age of 85. Born March 9, 1941, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Dick spent his life as a talented and versatile individual who was especially known for his expertise as a project management specialist in the energy sector and for his exceptional skill as a master leather craftsman. A servant of our Lord, Dick was also a member of Faith Bible Church of Lake Charles.

Aside from his uncompromising work ethic, some of Dick's favorite past times included hunting, fishing, reading, and working in his yard. But on almost any given weekend, he would likely be found at the closest area flea market, antique store, or estate sale, meticulously on the hunt for "rust and dust". Dick truly loved searching for vintage western-style treasures, many of which are displayed within his one-of-a-kind home place on Daughenbaugh Farm, just East of Lake Charles.

Visitors to his rustic residence are first greeted by his saddle covered mailbox, as well as beautifully landscaped pond and yard that he designed. His Cajun style home, which was constructed from a historic house that he had moved from the Lake Charles Charpentier District to the property, is flanked by his treasured "old western town," a gathering of buildings that house, among other things, his beloved leather shop, as well as his vast collection of saddles and western memorabilia.

Inside his home, the best of his procured treasures are displayed in his den. It's the centerpiece of the home, and a room that had been planned and dreamt of for decades. Finally completed in 2023, the den showcases his unique decorating style, and features a three dimensional "old west" storefront and barn that pays homage to the one that once graced his childhood homeplace.

Dick was a man difficult to put into one box-his talents and interests spanned the realms of creativity and practicality, making him a truly unique individual.

He leaves behind a loving family, including his son, Rick Daughenbaugh (Sarah); daughters Lisa Daughenbaugh Sonnier (Dwayne), and Leslie Daughenbaugh; his brothers, Bill Daughenbaugh and Glen Daughenbaugh (Kathy); 6 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and a cherished friend, Christy Trahan.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; Homer Daughenbaugh and Elizabeth "Beth" Daughenbaugh; wife, Raye Mona Daughenbaugh; brother, Bob Daughenbaugh; and a special cousin, Helen Daughenbaugh Vincent.

Friends and family are invited to gather to celebrate Dick's life at Johnson Funeral Home. A public viewing will take place on Thursday, September 17, 2026, from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM and continue on Friday, September 18, 2026, from 9am and leading up to the funeral service, which will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, September 18, 2026, followed by cremation.
