Richard Earl Delaney, 84, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 1:55 PM on Friday, June 4, 2021 in a local care facility.
Mr. Delaney was born July 23, 1936 in Big Pasture, LA and was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles. He served his country in the Marine Corp, U.S. Army, and the National Guard. He worked as a mechanic for Ed Taussig / Henderson Ford and later retired from Citgo as a mechanic, after many years of service. He enjoyed coaching baseball when his son was younger and continued coaching for many years later. Mr. Delaney was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, where he served as an usher for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family on their annual vacations. Mr. Delaney will always be remembered as a kind, caring man with a heart of gold, who was always there for anyone in need.
Mr. Delaney is survived by his daughter, Brenda Webb and fiancé Steve Sachs of Lake Charles, LA; son, Danny Delaney and wife Cheryl, of Carlyss, LA; sister, Patricia Landry and husband Winston of West Monroe, LA; grandchildren, Angela Delaney (Lucas Cheatham), Jeff Delaney, Jacie Delaney, Matthew Webb (Holly), and Jonathan Webb (Kelly); and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-one years, Lydia Kershaw Delaney; parents, Wallace and Leah Delaney; and brother, William Charles Delaney.
His funeral service will be at 11:45 AM on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven’s Life Center. Monsignor Daniel Torres will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery, under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the University Baptist Church on Monday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a rosary at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Tuesday at Our Lady Queen of Heaven’s Life Center from 10:30 AM until the start of the service.
