Richard James Barnes, Sr.

Richard James Barnes, Sr., passed away on May 3, 2017 at the Southwestern Louisiana Veterans Home in Jennings at the age of 96. He was born in McMinnville, Tennessee. Richard joined the U S Army in 1940 and served overseas in the Seventh Armored Division during WWII. He was the last living child of the nine children born to Eliazabeth Hayes and Robert Roy Barnes.

Richard is survived by his two daughters, Betty Ellender and Sheryl Welch; two sons, Richard Barnes, Jr. and Bobby Barnes; 10 grandchildren, Jim Barnes, Chris Barnes, Tina McFarland, Scott Barnes, Chelle Martin, John Ellender, Jason Ellender, Donald Welch, Daniel Welch, and Dow Welch; 18 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Lillie Mae, on October 8, 2016.

The family will receive friends on Monday, May 8, 2017 from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home with a service beginning at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery in Carlyss under the direction of Johnson and Robison Funeral Home.
