It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard "Rick" James Hardy, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who departed this life on November 2, 2026, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, at the age of 75. Born on June 5, 1951, in Norwalk, Ohio, Rick was a proud graduate of New London High School. He devoted his professional life to the trucking industry, working diligently for Mayflower as an assembly man, where he helped produce Peterbilt trucks.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, Rick served his country with honor and received several medals for his dedication, including the National Defense Service Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for his service in Korea. He was also recognized as an expert rifleman, a testament to his commitment and skill.
Rick found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was passionate about his chickens, cherished every moment spent cheering for Cleveland Browns, LSU and Ohio State football, and his greatest pride came from the love he had for his grandchildren. His warmth, generosity, and unwavering spirit left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Rick is survived by his devoted wife, Phyllis Hardy; daughters April Rice (Herb Farnsworth), Kelley Hardy Repp (Ashley), and Kim Messersmith; his brother Joseph Hardy; and sisters Lois Hardy and Sharon Witter (Ricky). He also leaves behind his step children, Scott Richard (Tara), Ricky Richard (April), Mika Richard Pruitt ( Tim), and Kevin Richard. He will be deeply missed by his twenty three grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. Each of them carries with them the beautiful memories of a man who loved fiercely and lived his life with gratitude and kindness.
In accordance with Rick's wishes, cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home of Iowa, and there will be no formal services. However, family and friends will gather to honor his life and share memories in the future. Further details regarding this celebration of life will be communicated at a later time, inviting all who loved him to join in remembrance and reflection.
Rick's legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, whose lives he touched with his compassion and love. May he rest in peace, knowing he has left a profound mark on the world around him.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, John and Marilyn Hardy; his grandchildren, Cody Hardy, Wrenley Oney, and Emry Oney.
